Founded in 1934, Eggen & Lance, Santa Rosa Mortuary, and Fred Young Funeral Home have cared for loved ones that have passed in Northern California.

Since our founding over a century ago, it has been exceptionally important to us that our neighbors and their loved ones are cared for with love and professionalism. It’s important to us that when you meet with our team you feel heard, and your needs are met. We proudly offer full-service funeral, burial, cremation, and reception services to the families of Sonoma County, the North Bay and beyond.

Eggen & Lance Chapel, Santa Rosa Mortuary, and Fred Young Funeral Home is a funeral home that offers a variety of funeral services. Eggen & Lance is one of the few funeral homes that has a chapel, reception hall and a state-room all at one location, and we are located right here in Santa Rosa, California.

We proudly serve Santa Rosa, Windsor, Healdsburg, Cloverdale, Sonoma, Rohnert Park, Cotati, Penngrove, Sebastopol, Petaluma and the surrounding communities in Sonoma County. Our History

Our family of funeral homes, including Santa Rosa Mortuary, Eggen & Lance Chapel, and Fred Young Funeral Homes, shares a common purpose: caring for Sonoma County families with dignity, compassion, and respect. Together, we continue a tradition of service that began more than a century ago, rooted in the values of community and care.

Roots in Sonoma County

The story of service in this region begins in 1885 when Santa Rosa Memorial Park was founded. The cemetery became a cornerstone of remembrance for local families and set the foundation for generations of compassionate care that followed.

Fred Young Funeral Homes

The Young family began serving Healdsburg in the late 1800s when John Young founded the family’s undertaking business. After Thomas Young’s passing in 1919, his son Fred Young took over to continue the family legacy. That dedication became the foundation of Fred Young Funeral Homes, which continue to serve families from Healdsburg and Cloverdale with the same trusted care today.

Eggen & Lance Chapel

Founded in 1924, Eggen & Lance Chapel has been a familiar and trusted name in Santa Rosa for nearly a century. Located on Mendocino Avenue, the chapel is known for its welcoming spaces, including a chapel, reception hall, and stateroom all on one campus. In 1986, William “Bill” Grafe became the sole owner and guided the mortuary through years of growth while maintaining the strong community relationships that shaped its reputation.

Santa Rosa Mortuary

Santa Rosa Mortuary has long been part of the city’s memorial landscape, working closely with neighboring Santa Rosa Memorial Park to provide families with thoughtful, accessible care. The mortuary’s Franklin Avenue location continues that tradition, offering a full range of funeral, cremation, and green burial services for the Santa Rosa community.

A Unified Family of Care

By the mid-2000s, Santa Rosa Mortuary brought Eggen & Lance Chapel and Fred Young Funeral Homes together under the SRMEL family. This unification strengthened local continuity while preserving each location’s unique identity and community roots. Today, SRMEL serves families throughout Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Cloverdale, and surrounding North Bay communities with the same neighbor-to-neighbor promise that has guided us for generations.

Snapshot Timeline

1885 – Santa Rosa Memorial Park founded, becoming a cornerstone of remembrance for local families.

1919–1920 – After Thomas G. Young’s passing in 1919, Fred Young returns from service to lead the family undertaking business in Healdsburg, beginning a legacy that continues today.

1924 – Eggen & Lance Chapel founded in Santa Rosa, marking the start of a long-standing tradition of service.

1986–1992 – William “Bill” Grafe becomes sole owner of Eggen & Lance in 1986 and later transitions ownership in 1992 while remaining active for years afterward.

Mid-2000s – Santa Rosa Mortuary brings Eggen & Lance and Fred Young Funeral Homes into one family, forming SRMEL and unifying care across Sonoma County.

William “Bill” Theodore Grafe was born May 5, 1941 in Oakland, California and raised in the East Bay island town of Alameda. Bill became a partner in Eggen and Lance and, in 1986, the sole owner. He sold the mortuary in 1992, but stayed on for more than a decade as manager…

Matthew Disbrow

General Manager/ Funeral Director FD 3395 / Embalmer EMB 9328

Matthew is the General Manager for Santa Rosa Mortuary, Eggen & Lance , and Fred Young Funeral Home. He is also a licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer and Crematory Manager. Born in Santa Rosa, raised in Rohnert Park, and now currently resides in Windsor. Matthew is proud to service the community that he has been brought up in. He started studying for his career directly after high school by taking most of the science and anatomy classes at the Santa Rosa Junior College and then transferred to American River college where he started the Funeral Service Education program, also known as, “Mortuary College.” Matthew has always had a passion for the industry and recalls always wanting to have a career in funeral services. This will be his seventh year being involved with the funeral industry. “Being there for my community at the time of need is a rewarding feeling.”

Matthew is known to spend some summer days out at Sears Point (Sonoma Raceway) taking his kart out. “It allows my mind to let go, driving is the best way for me to relax.”

He is happy to be a part of the Eggen & Lance, Fred Young family, and looking forward to many years serving the community that he was brought up in.

Troy Warren

Fred Young Funeral Home Funeral Director Troy Warren’s interests in anatomy/physiology combines well with his desire to serve others.

Shortly after completing his studies at San Francisco College of Mortuary Science he found himself at home with the Santa Rosa Mortuary family.

“It’s true that some funeral homes are run by large companies or corporations that really don’t have families’ interest at heart and care more about company profits. We, at the Santa Rosa Mortuary family (Fred Young Funeral Home, Santa Rosa Mortuary, Eggen & Lance Chapel), are a small company that focuses on meeting the needs of each family that comes to us, and I think we do it even better than most “family owned” businesses.”

His off work pleasures include hiking, playing the guitar, and puttering around the house.

Christine Ortiz

Administrative Assistant/ After Hours Assistant

Christine is our wonderful Administrative assistant who has been with Santa Rosa Mortuary, Eggen & Lance Chapel, And Fred Young Funeral Home for almost four years now. She loves working with the local hospitals and health department to file the proper documents that are required for the funeral homes. Christine has learned a lot about the medical fields due to her position here at Eggen & Lance and Fred Young Funeral Home. She has a three-year-old son who means the world to her and strives to be a great mother. When Christine is not at the funeral home she likes to spend her time with her son outdoors, baking and reading.

Tony Muñoz Jr., born in San Francisco, California, began his career in the funeral profession at just 15 years old. With a deep passion for caring for the bereaved, Tony has dedicated his life to helping families through their most difficult moments. He continually seeks innovative ways to memorialize loved ones with meaning and dignity. A graduate of the College of San Mateo, Tony spent much of his adult life in Maui, Hawaii, where he embraced the island’s warmth and community spirit. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, music, and cherishing moments with family.

Cathi Disbrow

Historic Document Specialist

With a passion for genealogy and mystery, I’ve found great fulfillment in preserving family histories and uncovering hidden stories through my work in the archives at Eggen and Lance/Fred Young funeral homes. Nothing pleases me more than to get a phone call from someone asking for pieces to a family puzzle and helping them make connections to their past. A fourth-generation San Franciscan, having raised our two sons in Sonoma County, my son Matthew is now General Manager here at Eggen and Lance, and my nephew and cousin also work alongside us keeping things in the family. I previously worked in childcare for over 30 years and now I also help care for my mother in a local senior living facility, where I continue to gather and preserve stories from her and other residents. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, spending time with my grandchildren, and passing on our family’s legacy.

Jaime Steggal

Born and raised in the heart of Santa Rosa, California, Jaime Steggal has dedicated her life to serving others with kindness, grace, and compassion. With over a decade of experience in the funeral industry, Jaime is known for her servant’s heart and unwavering commitment to helping families through some of life’s most difficult moments. Her calm presence and genuine care have touched countless lives, providing comfort and dignity when it’s needed most.

Outside of her professional life, Jaime finds joy in the simple pleasures that bring people together. She loves spending time with friends and family, whether it’s a backyard gathering or a weekend camping trip under the stars. An avid gardener, she nurtures beauty and life in her own backyard, and she enjoys traveling to experience new places and cultures.

Jaime’s warmth, sincerity, and deep compassion shine through in everything she does, making her a beloved friend, trusted professional, and cherished member of her community.
