Obituary of Gino Canevari

Gino Canevari was born November 13, 1924 in San Francisco, Ca. and peacefully passed away February 21, 2021 in Santa Rosa where he spent most of his life. Preceded in death by his father Attilio, mother Mary, brother Pietro and sister Albina. He leaves behind his wife Dorthey Sharon, son Rick (Joni), bother Ed (Mable), grandchildren Paul and Theresa, five great-grandchildren, Nnphew Skeeter Caneveri and numerus other nieces and nephews. Gino worked in his father's ravioli factory with his brother Ed and in 1949 he started experimenting with making macaroni and potato salad. In 1956 he ventured out on his own to start Rickie's Salad, which he named after his son Rick. He distributed Rickie's Salad to all western States including all Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises and the government military bases and local Sonoma County markets. Gino loved to fish for Bass on the Napa River and Steelhead on the Russian River. He had a passion for mushroom hunting in his earlier days as well as several members of his family. One of the many pleasures of life he enjoyed was gambling in Reno and Tahoe as well as betting the horse races especially while attending the Sonoma County Fair. He was extremely proud of his redwood grove that he planted on his property and loved to sit under the trees and tell stories. Gino was known for his overwhelming generosity and will be missed by all who know him. No services will be held at his request. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Santa Rosa or to a charity of your choice.
