Obituary of Janis Arlene Wright-Motley
Janis Arlene Wright- Motley died at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Rosa after a lengthy illness on October 21, 2018. She was able to celebrate her 55th birthday with friends and family.
Janis was born on October 3, 1963 in San Diego, California and grew up in El Cajon. She attended Granite Hills High School, graduating in 1981. She went on to graduate from Humboldt State University where she met her lifelong friends Lori Pola Hoard and Jennifer Hegenbart, who formed the "Three Amigos". She graduated with a Master Degree in Adaptation of Literature for Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. Janis was passionate about performance, writing, and acting her entire adult life, often performing locally. She taught almost 30 years at SRJC in the Speech Communications department. Janis loved interacting and teaching her students at the JC; she found great satisfaction in seeing her students grow in their communication skills. Each fall for the past 20 years, Janis would write, direct and act in a scene at the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery Lamplight Tour. She adored Halloween, haunted houses, and ghost stories of all kinds.
Janis married Steven Boyd Motley on July 3, 1999 and they had 19 wonderful years of marriage. Their daughter, Katalina Karin Wright Motley, follows in her mother's footsteps in her love of performance and acting. Janis is survived by her parents, Laurence Wright and Karin Cheuvront, her husband Steve, daughter Katalina, and her sister, Laura Beal. She will be missed dearly by her family and her many friends.
A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran, 4930 Newanga Avenue, 95405 on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations for a park bench in her name at the Rural Cemetery to Laura Beal, 2275 Warwick Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95405.
