Obituary of Jeffrey Kowal
KOWAL, Jeffrey Arnold. 78, of Santa Rosa, California passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018. Beloved Brother of Bruce D. Kowal, of Bayonne, New Jersey, father of Joseph Alexander Triplette (Kowal) of Yadkinville, NC and George Tureki Triplette (Kowal) of Mt. Airy NC. He was the eldest Son of Samuel J. Kowal, MD, and Rona E Kowal of Newton Highlands, Massachusetts. Jeffrey was born in Newton, MA on June 27, 1939, and attended Newton Public Schools, graduating from Cambridge Academy in 1958. He later studied Geography and Cartography at Boston University, Penn State University and received an MA in Geography from Catholic University of America.
He was strongly influenced by additional study in contemporary art and architecture. He worked at the Goddard Space Flight Center where he designed posters capturing a unique cartographic perspective focusing on "the image of a place in the process of becoming". He continued developing this "new map" concept after moving to Sacramento where he established himself as a Cartographic Designer with a unique perspective.
