Obituary of Thomas Oleari

Tom Oleari, age 69, passed away suddenly in Santa Rosa, CA on March 16, 2018 due to cardiac arrest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Esther Oleari of San Rafael and survived by Toni Faxon, his loving girlfriend and partner of 25 years; brother Kenoli Oleari, his brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Renee Oleari; and his niece, Leilani Oleari and in-laws through Toni Faxon: Doug Faxon and Paulette Staker; Andy and Carol (Faxon) Evans; Bryan; and Alison Evans. Tom was born in New Orleans, LA, on July 14, 1948. Due to his father's work with Standard Oil Company of California, Tom's family also lived in Dallas and Houston before settling in San Rafael. Tom graduated from San Rafael High School in June of 1966. After high school, Tom enlisted in the Air Force where he served until 1970. Following his time in the Air Force, Tom studied music and business management at College of Marin and Sonoma State College. Through the 70s and 80s, Tom played guitar, sang and composed rock, blues, and country western music professionally in two bands that he founded: Flyer and Smokin'. Between 1975 and 1995, Tom realized a childhood dream, performing as a professional magician, in and around Sonoma County. In 1983, Tom was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which left him with significant short-term memory loss. His life was changed significantly by the disease and impacted his ability to continue with his professions in music and magic. Following the dissolution of his nine year marriage to the lead singer in one of his bands, Tom met his life partner, Toni Faxon. They shared a rich life together until Tom's death in 2018.. In 1985, Tom joined the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Rosa. The church provided a wonderful community for Tom. Tom played music and sang in the choir of the church, performed magic for families, participated in church activities. Church member delighted in his unique sense of humor. Tom was a well-loved member of the congregation. A memorial service will be held for Tom on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 1550 Pacific Avenue in Santa Rosa. A reception will follow the service in Ingram Hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Tom's memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa. A burial at Santa Rosa Memorial Park will be at 10:30 a.m. on the Veterans lawn at the cemetery.
