Rachel May Sinai passed away at 93 years of age surrounded by a roomful of loving family and friends. Rachel was a very talented musician, playing piano and organ for over two decades at nightclubs from Los Angeles to Canada and then to Sonoma County, and playing the cello into her eighties. While she was a popular local musician for many years her favorite performances were for her large family surrounded at the piano by her cherished grandchildren.
Rachel was an enthused community builder beginning in her earlier years with Rose Red, The Children's Home Society and later with the Sonoma County Museum Board and the Santa Rosa Symphony. As a child Rachel was an avid animal lover and protector, and throughout her life she always had a cat in her home. She was happiest these last years, enjoying the deck of her Wild Oak home situated on the meadow she proudly helped preserve as open space. Rachel was a skilled and spirited tennis player enjoying many years of tennis at Howarth Park and La Cantera.
In 1970 Rachel married the love of her life, Robert W. Sinai blending their new family of five children. In all of life, what mattered most to Rachel were her loving family, her wonderful family of friends, her beautifully and inclusively woven community.
Rachel was predeceased by her loving husband, Bob. She is survived by her five children: Kim Clark (Rick), Renee Francisco, Greg Francisco (Buffie), Joel Sinai (Diana), Julie Sinai (Eric Riley), and grandchildren Eric, Kirsten, Oceana, Cheyenne, Gabriel, Olissa, Jeremiah, Cassidy, Nick, Joseph, Tirzah, and five great grandchildren.
Rachel with her bright and humorous elegance and her deep love will be forever in our hearts. A celebration of Rachel’s life will be held in early May. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Humane Society of Sonoma County.
