Obituary of Melvin Jerro
Melvin Joseph Jerro passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Santa Rosa on February 8, 2018. Mel, was born in Oakland, California on May 10, 1937 and was the oldest son of Melvin Sr. and Lillian Jerro. Mel grew up with his younger brothers, Kenny and David in Berkley, California before joining the United States Air Force doing aerial reconnaissance from 1955-1958. Mel continued to serve his country by doing an additional 18 years in the Air Force Reserves as a C-5 crew chief. He married Alberta Novo on October 9, 1965. Together they had three sons, Michael, Stephen, and Dennis. Mel worked for the Santa Rosa Press Democrat in the composing room for 25 years. After retiring from the Press Democrat in 1997, Mel was able to invest his time in the things he enjoyed most, classic cars, playing the saxophone, karaoke, rooting for the Giants, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Alberta, sons Michael (Janey), Stephen, Dennis (Claudia), grandchildren Kyle, Michaela, and Marissa, and extended family members around Northern California.
