Ralph Orme U.S. Army (Ret) 1932-2017 Ralph was born in Philadelphia, PA, to Jud and Mildred Orme. Growing up in Philly would form the man he would later become in life. Ralph joined the Air Force in 1950 was sent to Kwajalein in Marshall Islands in 1951, he was then dispatched to Korea and in 1953 transferred to Travis Airforce Base in CA. In 1954 Ralph married his childhood sweetheart Marie Harzer. They were married for 48 years and had three children, Linda, Keith, and Ralph. In 1955 Ralph join the U.S. Army, serving in the 82nd Airborne Command retiring in 1973 as a Chief Warrant Officer. As a Special Forces Officer he served in Thailand, Cambodia and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was the recipient of many commendations including the Bronze Star. After retiring from the Military Ralph held positions for the U.S. Government at The Presidio Base in San Francisco and in the Netherlands. He was a very clever and intelligent “mountain of a man” and was often heard reciting classic poetry and singing old “big band” songs. Ralph is survived by his sons Keith and Ralph, brother Washington, grandchildren Vincent, Christina, Christopher, Melinda and Christie, nephew Jack and his wife Stacey, niece Cheryl and her husband Bill Strong and many other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Marie, daughter Linda, sisters Francis and Betty, and brothers Jack, George and Billy. In keeping with Ralph’s wishes there will be a private service with military honors. The Salvation Army was always important to Ralph and donations made in his memory would be appreciated. The likes of him will not pass this way again.
