Thelma Rosa Russo, 88 passed away on April 1, 2021 at her home in Rohnert Park, CA. Prior to her relocation to Rohnert Park, CA, Thelma lived in San Francisco, CA for over 65 years. Thelma was born in Managua, Nicaragua on April 21, 1932 to Rosa Portocarrero and Julio Mayorga. In 1955, desiring a better life, she immigrated to San Francisco, CA. She worked for several employers including AT&T, formerly Pacific Telephone & Telegraph and Employee Benefits Administrative Services providing administrative services to management. Thelma joined the old St. Mary’s Church adult club where she met the love of her life, Ted Russo. They married on October 12, 1963 and were happily married for over 57 years. They were blessed with 3 children; Rosanna Marie Hayden, Thelma Isabel Kirkwood, and Theodore Julio Russo and 7 grandchildren; Brian Nicholas Medernach, Zachary Harry Medernach, Spencer Tyler Kirkwood, Nina Theresa Medernach, Theodore Anthony Russo, Matthew Aiden Russo, and Samantha Marie Russo. Thelma’s upbringing gave her a strong devotion to the Catholic Church and thus she was heavily involved in St. Anne of the Sunset’s church group leadership and fund raising activities. For many years she helped to raise funds and coordinate missionary activities for El Hogar de Los Ninos, a nonprofit providing Nicaraguan orphan and impoverished children with food, housing and supplies towards their long-term education, health and safety. Thelma truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; telling stories of days gone by to family as well as existing and newfound friends, savoring delicious sweet treats, going on picnics with her husband Ted, reading mystery books and watching crime solving TV shows, and secretly telling each of her grandchildren that they were her favorite. Thelma is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and her siblings Maria del Socorro Bermudez, Gladys Mayorga, Norma Alvarado, and Julio Cesar Mayorga and is preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Brown and parents Rosa Portocarrero and Julio Mayorga. Her visitation, rosary and memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 21st from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at Eggen & Lance Chapel located at 1540 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa, CA.
