Florence, daughter of Lachlan and Florence Fitzsimon, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Christmas Day. Born and raised in Charleville, Queensland, Australia, she met and married Willard “Red” Hall, the love of her life, while he was stationed in Charleville during WW II. Her daughter, Bonnie, was born in Australia. Sons Lachlan and Rodney were born in Santa Rosa after the war. Flo is survived by her three children, a loving daughter-in-law, Mary, thirteen grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Great-granddaughter Hazel and great great-granddaughter Savanna preceded her in death.
As Flo sailed from Australia as a new bride and mother she was concerned about losing touch with her family. She was able to return to Australia many times over the years. Fourteen “rellies” came from Australia for the celebration of her 90th birthday. She appreciated the efforts of her Aussie family to stay connected.
Flo was a long time resident of Santa Rosa. She and Red managed Parkit Markit, the first market in Bennett Valley (now Lazzini’s Market). She worked for Dr. Morgan Ririe for many years. Flo never lost her love of dance. She danced for over an hour at her granddaughter’s wedding at age 93. Her formal education ended with the 8th grade but she was a life-long learner. She loved to read. In her late 70’s she became adept at email.
Flo joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Santa Rosa. She often served in the women’s and young peoples’ organizations. She is fondly remembered by many of those she associated with over the years. One of her passions was helping people. She often made homemade bread or baked custard to welcome newcomers or to cheer up the sick or lonely.
Flo suffered from Alzheimer’s during her final years. She was able to stay in her own home thanks to the help of her grandchildren Nathan and Barbara, along with other family members and caregivers.
A funeral service will be held at 10 am on January 12, 2018, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1780 Yulupa Ave, Santa Rosa, CA. At Flo’s request, there will be no viewing. Interment will be at the Bennett Valley Cemetery.
