Brian was born and raised in Sacramento, CA. Brian attended the University of Oregon and received his Bachelor's Degree; while there he met a wonderful friend, Dick Romm. Together they shared a love of old cars that cemented their friendship. They were both members of the Freewheelers Classic Car Club, the oldest gay car club of its kind in the US. Brian's mother taught him to play bridge as a teenager, which would blossom into a later-life passion that would match his car fancy. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League, Unit 509, in Santa Rosa, where he honed his skills to the point of becoming a Bronze Life Master, of which he was very proud. He was often called upon to teach and mentor, and he helped get the Petaluma Bridge Club started. Brian often expressed deep gratitude for his bridge mentors, Kathy Venton and Richard Zelinsky. In November 2008, Brian married David Daniel Bowes, a Bay Area musician. David drew Brian into his circle of friends, who loved him and together they attended many memorable concerts, meeting soloists and orchestral musicians alike.
Brian is survived by his mother, Nancy Eleanor Haley (née Weltz); his husband, David; and cousins include members of the Weltz family and the Kirkendall family. He was preceded in death by his father William "Bill" Haley and his brother Barry. A friend of Brian's commented "Take comfort...in the knowledge that he cast a brilliant light upon our world....". As his husband, I found him kind, generous, smart, sensitive, funny, and loving.. not to mention handsome. He is missed very much by our neighbors and a host of cats, including Nikki (our tuxedo cat), Storm, Mr. Moon, and Sami, as well as many friends.
