June 30, 1941 – January 30, 2023
On January 30, 2023, beloved husband, father and grandfather, Robert (Bob) Clifford Callahan, passed away peacefully of natural causes in Santa Rosa, CA. Robert was born June 30, 1941. He spent most of his 81 years living in California and several years living close to his daughter and grandchildren in Indiana with his first wife, Leslie Ann Callahan, prior to her passing in 2011. He then returned to Northern California, where he was born and raised, and there met and married his second wife Paulette.
He is survived by his wife Paulette Oppenheimer Callahan, his adult children Daniel (Trudy) & Becky (Phil), grandchildren Justin, Theron (Josie), David (Lily), Brennen and Analisa and two great grandchildren. Robert was proceeded in death by his oldest brother Edwin Callahan (2021) and survived by his youngest brother John (Becky) Callahan and faithful dog, Ella.
He joined the U.S. Navy, in 1963 and was later proudly active with the Jaycees in the effort to return Vietnam POWs. Throughout his life he lived and worked throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento and Central Valleys and San Diego prior to moving to Indiana. He worked in many roles in Security and Housing Management in companies large and small and was well respected. He enjoyed visiting and keeping up with family, his long-time friends, neighbors, and his past co-workers. He loved watching sports, particularly football and was a die-hard 49ers and Chargers football fan.
Although he experienced many health and personal challenges later in life, while others would have given up long before, he was always thinking of the next steps to improve himself and his loved ones.
The family would like to thank his life-long and newer friends and all the VA and other care and support providers for their help and support during his final years. He will be missed.
A graveside service will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA on March 10, 2023.
Any donations may be sent in (Bob) Callahan’s name to: VAhouse.org towards funds to use for housing and supporting other critical services for Veterans.
