Frances Alvina Toves
October 4, 1948 ~ May 10, 2025
Frances A. Toves, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, at the age of 76, in Santa Rosa, California. Born on October 4, 1948, in Guam, Frances grew up in a close-knit, religious family, which instilled in her a deep faith and love for life. Her journey through life was one of grace, love, and devotion.
Frances graduated from George Washington High School in Mangilao, Guam, and was crowned Guam Liberation Day Queen in 1967, a testament to her vibrant spirit and charm. Her adventurous heart led her to California, where she began a new chapter working for Bank of America and later as a TWA stewardess. It was during her time in the skies that she met her former husband, Paul Barnes. They lived in New York a few years. Eventually, Frances made Santa Rosa her home, where she dedicated herself to creating a warm and loving environment for her family.
A devoted homemaker, Frances found joy in gardening, especially in creating beautiful floral arrangements that brought color and joy to those around her. Her natural talent for hospitality was undeniable, something she cherished deeply after taking a course in the field.
Frances was a beacon of encouragement and kindness, often sending thoughtful greeting cards, journals, and small gifts to uplift and celebrate her loved ones. She always included her sons, Shaun-Paul and Brent, daughter-in-law Abigale , and grandson Semaj as part of the giver. Her family were the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Frances is predeceased by her father, Arthur Benjamin Carbullido Toves, and her mother, Manuela Lujan Anderson Toves. She leaves behind her sons, Shaun-Paul Barnes (Abigale Barnes & Semaj-Lucien Barnes) and Brent Brandon Toves. She is survived by her siblings, Marie Annette Toves Carbullido (Ronald Carbullido); Barbara Arlene Beitz (Paul Beitz); Catherine Angela Drilon ( Reuel Drilon); Benjamin Alan Toves (Marie Cruz Toves); Stephen A Toves; Robert A Toves (Ruth Guerrero Toves); Hilary A Toves (Orissa Tamiko Tsuhako Toves); and Gerard A Toves (Clarissa Flores Toves). Her extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and dear friends will also deeply miss her beautiful smile and presence.
A viewing to honor Frances’ life will be held at Eggen & Lance Memorial Service on Sunday, May 18th, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at 1540 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa, California. Frances’ family, especially Shaun-Paul, Brent, and her siblings, extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and family who have offered their love and support during this time. They find solace in the belief that Frances is now at peace with the Lord, her guiding light throughout her life.
