Edward J. Dal Poggetto

August 9, 1951 ~ February 4, 2025

Edward Joseph Dal Poggetto was born on August 9, 1951 in Santa Rosa, California. He was the son of Aldino and Erma Dal Poggetto, and a 1970 graduate of Montgomery High School.

Ed had a 20 year career with Safeway Stores. He started at 17 as a “bag boy” and retired as a produce manager, having worked at numerous locations. After he left Safeway, he followed his heart and began working as a mechanic until retirement. It didn’t matter what it was, if he was working on an engine, he was happy! He built engines for hot rods, speed boats, worked on Harleys and dragsters, in the midst of just regular cars and trucks, too. He came to my house one day in a roadster he built from spare parts. To say he was a genius when it came to anything automotive, is an understatement.

Ed’s love for cars started at an early age, as he was driving before he could walk. Dad built him this miniature roadster that he set up to run in a circle in the backyard…the 1950’s version of a baby swing, but with an engine. Later he got an official quarter midget and raced with the Bantam Car Club at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds until his pre-teen years.

Most recently, Ed enjoyed working on and collecting vintage automobiles. He also helped to bring back the Street Angels Car Club of Santa Rosa, of which our Dad was a founding member. Ed was also active in the Sonoma County Italian American Club.

I will always remember all the good times we had growing up. Rest in Peace, big brother!

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Aldino and Erma. He leaves behind his sister, Nancy Johnson (Sam), niece, Melinda Medeiros, nephew, Dale Johnson, companion, Peggy Melick, and many long time friends in his car community. There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Rose Catholic Church on Friday, February 28 at 10:30am, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
