Donald Hunsperger

Donald Wayne Hunsperger passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his Santa Rosa home on December 28, 2022 at the age of 77.  Wayne, as he preferred to be called, was born in Dos Palos, CA on August 22, 1945.  The youngest of five children, Wayne overcame obstacles from a difficult birth and developed a strong work ethic and a “do-it-yourself” ability that was important when his family moved to a small farm without indoor plumbing in Koshkonong, Missouri. When he was 11 years old, the family moved back to California and eventually settled in South San Francisco.  At the age of 20, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War.

After his service he returned to the Bay Area where in 1969, Wayne met a teacher named Valerie Samuels. He was always supportive of her activities and pitched in on any project, big or small, that benefited her or the children with whom she worked. Four years later on September 29, 1973, the two were married in San Francisco. When they met, Wayne was employed by CalTrans and while working there, he enrolled at San Francisco State University where he graduated with a B.A. in Environmental Studies. In 1976 the couple moved from Daly City, where in his mid-twenties Wayne had bought his first house, to Santa Rosa at which time Wayne worked for the Federal Government at the Presidio in SF and as an inspector on the Warm Springs Dam.  Wayne began his job as an Engineering Technician for the City of Santa Rosa in 1980 in the Traffic Department at City Hall.  Later he transferred to the City Water Department from which he retired in 2005.

In 1978, Wayne and Valerie welcomed their first child, Scott. A wonderful father from the beginning, Wayne took on additional roles as a Little League coach, Boy Scout dad, and countless others.  In 1986, the family adopted a daughter, Carol, and then Wayne became a soccer coach and an honorary veterinary assistant helping take care of the many pets his daughter gathered over the years.

Wayne was an avid cyclist, participating in century (100 mile) bike rides.  His enjoyment of gardening produced tasty vegetables, fruits and berries, along with beautiful roses.  His skills and abilities seemed endless. He maintained all of the family cars and demonstrated his expert mechanical ability even moreso when he completely restored a vintage 1939 Oldsmobile using original parts whenever possible. He used the master sewing skills that he learned from his mother to  reupholster car seats and furniture in addition to creating intricate quilts. There was no construction or plumbing task that he could not do. “Handyman” isn’t a strong enough description for someone who could do things from the bottom of the house where he laid all the hardwood and tile flooring to the top, reroofing of his two-story home and everything in between. In his limited spare time, he enjoyed attending Cal Berkeley football and Giants baseball games as well as going to and sometimes ushering at local theater productions and concerts.

At the root of so much of what Wayne did was helping, whether it be people or the environment.  He rode his bike wherever he could and picked up litter every time he walked his beloved dog, Buddy.  He made his own compost for the garden and never let food go to waste.  Wayne was always looking for creative ways to conserve water and when he installed energy efficient windows for the house, he built a greenhouse from the old ones. He volunteered at the St. Vincent dePaul Food Bank and the Cathedral Thrift Shop both located at St. Eugene’s. He was also a 10-gallon level blood donor to the Blood Bank of the Redwoods.  Never saying no to helping a neighbor, friend, or family member; almost everyone who knew Wayne has a memory of him assisting them in some way. As one friend put it, “He was always there in his quiet but strong way.”

His kind heart and giving spirit will be remembered always.  Wayne is survived by Valerie, his loving wife of more than 49 years, and their two children Scott and Carol; his sister Myra Raymond (Dale) and brothers Steve Hunsperger and Bruce Hunsperger (Shirley); brother-in-law Paul Samuels (Nancy) and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Dorothy Hunsperger and sister Bonnie Cearley-Bolan.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of his favorite charities: the National Parks Conservation Association, the Sierra Club, or a charity of your choice. The interment will be at Santa Rosa Memorial Park and is private for immediate family members only. A Celebration of Wayne’s Life  which other family members and friends are invited to attend will be held in the Spring.

JAIMEN FOSTER

JAIMEN TROY FOSTER

Jaimen Troy Foster, born June 24, 1962 in Arcata, CA passed away on Oct 21, 2022 in Santa Rosa.

Born and raised in Humboldt County, Jaimen, known as ‘Jaime’ in his early years, was reared by a lifelong timber worker and an elementary school teacher. He treasured the outdoors, athletics, and had a passion for learning. In Arcata, Jaime’s youth was spent riding and racing motorcycles, digging for clams, harvesting abalone, cutting timber, hunting, and fishing.

After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business from Humboldt State University, Jaime moved to Santa Rosa and began his career in Mortgage Lending working for IMCO, North American Mortgage, and Chase. He was a well respected originator, manager, and coworker.

Jaimen met his wife Jennifer working at IMCO, proposed in the building’s lobby, married at Church of the Incarnation in 1990, and raised three red-headed sons. His family meant the world to him.

Jaimen was an amazing athlete, excelling in all sports: baseball, football, basketball, and track. Basketball was his greatest passion. He was Point Guard for Arcata High School, earned All-County, played at College of the Redwoods and Humboldt State. His post-collegiate career included 25+ years in Sonoma County Leagues, Santa Rosa Airport Club 5am squad, countless 6’ and Under tournaments plus repeat medalist at Sonoma County Senior Games. Jaimen was active in his community, volunteering at church and school events. He loved coaching basketball for all 3 sons’ teams in YMCA, CYO, Santa Rosa Middle School and Santa Rosa High School.

His passion for the outdoors included hiking, backpacking, fishing, skiing, motorcycle riding and mountain biking. Many wonderful memories spent at the Pacific Ocean for abalone diving, spear fishing, backpacking in the Trinity Alps, and summers at Lake Almanor.

Weekends were often spent at the family ranch in Humboldt County working the land, harvesting timber, clearing roads, and caring for the mountainous land he loved. Jaimen enjoyed travel, with trips to Spain, Portugal, Italy, New Zealand, Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska.

Jaimen will be remembered for his athletic prowess, determination, and willingness to help others. His friends and neighbors only had to mention the need for a tree trimming and he’d be there with climbing gear and chain saws. His enthusiasm for sport, outdoor adventure, and family was unmatched. Jaimen worked steadfastly, whether at the office or on personal projects, to leave things better than he found them.

Jaimen is survived by his wife Jennifer, his sons Michael, Cameron, and Evan, his mother Marilynn Cooper Foster, brother Lonnie Foster (Carrie), sister Shawna Thorson (Greg), many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his father Darol Lee Foster.

LISA ANNE ENGLANT

Lisa Anne Englant, wife of Tony Englant, stepped out of this world into her Heavenly home on February 14, 2022.
Lisa blessed the lives of all who knew her. She was born March 11, 1962 to Birl and Merelee Bellar. Lisa’s curiosity to learn new things and to investigate situations until she found the answer only aided her work as a nursing home administrator, EMT, and police officer. Though she was injured in the line of duty that altered her life plans, Lisa never stopped learning, investigating, and finding new ways to help others. She was a wonderful confidant, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her heart never knew a limitation of love. She loved her Lord and did her best to carry His love and Grace throughout her life.
Lisa loved crafting, making varieties of bath soap, gardening, researching new things that sparked her interest, spinning her own yarn out of wool to knit, and many more things in life that brought her joy. Though Lisa was skilled at so many things, the part of her life that she loved the most, was loving and caring for her family, most especially her husband, Tony. Her family will continue to bask in the love of Lisa’s legacy.
Lisa was blessed to give birth to one child, and to open her heart to 4 more children, of whom she all calls her own. She has seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Lisa joins her parents and her son Brandon in Heaven.
She is survived by her beloved husband Tony of the home, children, Mark, Preston, Rick and Miki, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Services for Lisa will be held in Bovina, Texas and Paradise, California – the dates yet to be determined.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Lisa’s honor.

Ann Rowcroft Bulawsky

Ann Rowcroft Bulawsky passed peacefully on September 15, 2022 in Santa Rosa, California. She was ninety-one years of age.

A native Californian and descendent of pioneer families, Ann was born October 4, 1930, to Lyle and Helen Jackson of Turlock. The family re-located to Stockton in 1937. They became active in many community functions and organizations, including the Retired Officer’s Association and Wives Club and the Santa Rosa Symphony League. Both were active members of the First Presbyterian Church. Larry passed away in 1984. In the years following, Ann continued being the ever-loving, strong and caring matriarch to her ever-growing family of many: children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all of their kids, ongoing. Linda Linnea Skoko

Linda Linnea Skoko

December 2, 1942 – July 15, 2022

Linda Linnea Skoko was born on December 2, 1942 at Lincoln Hospital in Boyle Heights, California.  The same hospital as her husband, Frank Skoko who is 3 years her senior.  She was the daughter of Arthur C. Fuentes and Belen Fuentes.  Linda loved to dance and do dance contests and she was so good at it.  Growing up she lived in Montebello and attended Montebello High School and graduated in 1960. Not long after that, she married Frank Skoko who was her childhood sweetheart and best friend. Her Aunt Stella lived on the same street in Los Angeles, so they had known each other as young children because her aunt babysat Linda on many occasions.  She made clothing for her and they ate fudge together.  Linda had a lot of curiosity and some mischief but it was all in good fun.

They had their first child while they lived in Whittier, California.  She worked as a cosmetologist for a short time while raising their two daughters, Lennea and Dena Skoko.  Linda was a devoted wife and mom who chose to forego her career early on to raise her two daughters and maintain a lovely home.  She loved to volunteer to be the room mom and with the Girl Scouts as well as taking her daughters to dance classes.  Her daughters were always well dressed and she loved to do such beautiful hairdos to make them look like dolls.  It was her way of showing her love while being creative and revealing her artistic talents.

She and Frank read an article about the best place to live in California, so they came up to Petaluma to visit and found out there was a custom home being built in Cotati and they bought it on the spot.  Monterey and Big Sur were some of her favorite spots to visit, but they were expensive places to live.  Cotati is a quaint town and close to Bodega Bay, Santa Rosa and Napa Valley.  She loved the wine country and making trips to wineries and antique shops.  The beauty inspired her to develop her artistic side.  She joined the Sebastapol Center for the Arts to hone in on her skills and enter many art shows at all the local fairs including Petaluma, Santa Rosa and Sebastapol.

Linda had a strong voice.  She always wanted to be heard and she would often ask her daughters to post things online for her.  She had determination and a strong wit.  If Linda wanted it, she would get it, like getting a puppy at the age of 79.  Her love of animals meant many dogs and birds to fill her heart with joy in her time here on earth.  Linda was kind and generous to people and her good sense of humor allowed them to open up to her.  As a result, both her daughters are the same way.  Linda was a strong Catholic and very involved in the church.  Being a member of the Woman’s Guild was extremely important to the point where she donated some treats right before entering the hospital the week she passed away.  Her prayer regiment was daily and inspiring as Frank, her husband, would pray with her because to her it was a special time of devotion for both of them.  They were married for 60 years and his love for her is eternal.

Linda left to be with the Lord on Friday, July 15th, 2022.  Her legacy lives on with her beautiful grandchildren, Gavin, Hanna, Grant and Alana Hartoonian.  Each one has inherited different and amazing attributes and talents from their “Granny Num Nums.”

She lives on through her family as does her zest and love for life.  She is also survived by her husband, Frank Skoko, her daughters, Lennea Hartoonian and Dena Skoko, her son-in-law, Edik Hartoonian, her nephew, Edward Brenman, her neices Aleta Leasher and Kathlene Munoz, Aunt Stella Beltran, Cousin Peter Beltran, Cousin David Beltran, Cousin Tom Martinez, and Cousin Michael Martinez.
