Obituary of Robert Sinai
Robert William Sinai passed away peacefully in his home on July 16, 2017 at the wonderful age of 100. Robert (Bob) was born October 4, 1916 in Oakland, California with music in his blood. When he was accepted to Julliard in his youth, his father, Joe Sinai, an accomplished percussionist in vaudeville and symphony, discouraged a musical career for his son. Bob, instead, attended UC Berkeley where he played trombone in the Cal Symphony while earning a zoology degree. After serving in the Security Intelligence Corps during WWII, Bob earned his law degree, eventually moving to Santa Rosa to practice law for 40 plus years. Bob joined the DeMeo Law Firm when he arrived in Santa Rosa and subsequently left there to form a partnership with James E. Jones, who later became a judge. After that he had various partners, including John Klein.
In 1970, Robert married the love of his life, Rachel, uniting their families of five children, Kim, Renee, Greg, Joel and Julie. Robert cared deeply about his community. He was an enthusiastic patron and former board member of the Santa Rosa Symphony. He was a Past Master of his Masonic Lodge and last year he marked 75 years as a Mason; he was a Shriner; a member of the Kiwanis; and a member of the Santa Rosa Bar Association.
Robert is survived by Rachel, his wife of 47 years, his five children, Kim (Rick) Clark, Renee Francisco, Greg (Buffie) Francisco, Joel (Diana) Sinai, and Julie Sinai (Eric Riley) and 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and cousin, Joe (Shirley) Sinai.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Santa Rosa Symphony. A Celebration of Life will be held in early September.
