F.J. "Sam" Warren was born December 17, 1938 on a sheep ranch in Newport, MI. A ranchhand nicknamed him "Little Fat Sam" and the Sam stayed with him throughout his life. Sam had a colorful childhood. His mother Erna was "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII and Sam learned welding and auto mechanics at his father John's knee in NY. The family eventually moved west in an old converted school bus moving around as his father repaired rails for the railroad, eventually settling in the company town of McCloud. Sam was known to sneak onto the grounds of the Hearst Country Mansion for fishing and enjoyed climbing Mt. Shasta.
Moving to San Jose as a teen, he met and married Charlotte but not before a stint in the USAF and wrangling cattle on a ranch in Weed. Sam and Charlotte raised their children Dan and Kathie in the East Bay and Sonoma County. After Charlotte's premature death, Sam married Susan. Retiring after 40 years with CALTRANS, they moved to Idaho where he was active in the Elks Lodge and enjoyed making wooden toys for Foster Children's Christmas gifts.
Sam died March 25, 2018 while on a trip to visit his children in Santa Rosa. He is survived by his wife Susan, children Dan Warren and Judilee (Santa Rosa), Kathie Gross and Tom Brown (Rohnert Park), and Anna Blaine (Idaho), sister June and Roland Walker (Idaho) and grandchildren Myriah, Kai, JD, Darren, Ann and 3 greatgrandchildren.
