Dortha passed away peacefully at her home on November 10th after a long illness. She was the daughter of Charles Simonini and Doris Elva Roney and was a life-long resident of Santa Rosa. She attended Lincoln Elementary School, Santa Rosa Junior High, Santa Rosa High (Class of 1948) and Santa Rosa Junior College, where she completed courses to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She worked as an LVN and then later at Paolini's Men's Wear near Railroad Square. Later in life she met and married the love of her life, David Sonnikson. They had 16 wonderful years together before his death in 2010. Dortha was proud of her Italian heritage and was a long-time supporter of the North Bay Italian Cultural Foundation, as well as the Earle Baum Center of the Blind and The Salvation Army. She was kind and generous, while at the same time having strong opinions on many subjects. Dortha is survived by her three children, Stanley Laughlin, Mark Gager and Elaine Laughlin, as well as by numerous cousins. Her family wishes to thank Home Instead Senior Care and Sutter Hospice for their marvelous support of Dortha and her family. There will be a visitation for Dortha at Eggen & Lance Chapel, 1540 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, with a funeral service to follow at 12 noon and then a reception at Eggen & Lance Chapel.
