Rita Frugoli, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband of 65 years, her 3 daughters and son-in law on November 6, 2017.
Rita was born on May 19, 1931 in San Francisco, the only child of Marina and Frank Giomi. She attended Epiphany Grammar School and Presentation High School, Class of 1949. The only time she skipped school was to attend a Frank Sinatra show at the Golden Gate Theatre. She was a big fan of the music of that era.
Rita met the love of her life, Bob Frugoli in 1947 at Hoberg’s Resort in Lake County, California. They shared a common bond of both being only children with their families from Lucca, Italy. They married in San Francisco at Saints Peter and Paul Church in North Beach on June 1, 1952. They had 3 daughters, Lisa, (Ron Koeberer), Karen, and Linda, and enjoyed a long married life of travel, family and friends. Rita was loved by everyone she met and she created close friendships that lasted throughout her lifetime.
Rita exemplified the role of wife, mother and grandmother. She was the adored Nonni to 6 grandchildren, Alicia, Alex and Ellen Evangelides and Emily (Lee Abrahams), Julie and Mary Beth Mraovich.
Rita loved to travel and visited every continent with the one exception of Antarctica. Some of her travels included, India, China, Japan, Egypt, Indonesia, Kenya, Russia, but she always loved returning to Italy where she had family and was fluent in the Italian language. In addition to other accomplishments, Rita and Bob founded Armida Winery in 1989. Rita managed her Type 1 Diabetes for 62 years, which is an incredible medical accomplishment. She never complained or let her diabetes prevent her from enjoying life to the fullest.
We will gather at 11:00 am. for a funeral mass on Tuesday, November 21 at Star of the Valley Church, 545 White Oak Drive, Oakmont, Santa Rosa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 15829, Arlington, VA, 22215, or Diabetes.org, in the hopes of finding a cure to this challenging disease.
