Nancy Caffey, 88, of Santa Rosa passed away peacefully on the evening of Monday, October 9. Her daughter Michelle was at her side. Following a stroke a few weeks prior, Nancy enjoyed her assisted living apartment for only two weeks before her health declined significantly as a result of congestive heart and kidney failures.
Nancy Dean Gill was born to Jack and ‘Dixie’ Gill in Los Angeles on Armistice Day 1928. Her father’s job moved the family often, and she changed schools nearly every year until settling in San Francisco, where she was proud to have attended all of high school at Lowell. She then earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Houston and became an accomplished artist. She continued painting and teaching others to paint until her stroke.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill Caffey. The couple moved to Santa Rosa in 1967, and Bill owned the franchise of Copper Penny (now site of Steele & Hops) for 15 years. Together they also raised and showed prize-winning Kerry Blue Terriers for many years.
Nancy is survived by her daughters Claudia Caffey of Santa Rosa, and Michelle Welch [Kropp] Head (Dave) of Newcastle; granddaughter Cindi [Kropp] Garrisi (Andy) and her three children of Fair Oaks; and grandson Brian Kropp (Tina) of Sacramento; her beloved cousin Cathy Murano of Redlands; three sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; her ‘Art Gals’; and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The Living Room or to First Presbyterian Church where she was a member for 50 years.
Visitation at Eggen & Lance will be Friday, October 20, 2:00-5:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. A brief graveside service will be at Santa Rosa Memorial Park on Saturday, October 21, at 1:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at First Presbyterian Church, 1550 Pacific Avenue, at 2:00 pm. Light refreshments afterward. Family contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
