Reva Virginia Sloat
November 17, 1926 – October 8, 2016
Reva left us peacefully on October 8, 2016. Born in Missouri, she lived most of her youth in the South. Reva made her way to California as a young woman, working in retail, where she met and married the father of her children, Gilbert Pettit. Reva and Gil had three children together, Alan Pettit (Mary), Chris Hannan (Greg), and Kathy Pettit (Bob Sheets).
In addition to raising the children, Reva participated in Sotoyome Chapter of Eastern Star and held several different jobs including being a purchasing agent for Healdsburg Hospital and a receptionist at a local bank. She had a strong work ethic that she passed onto her children.
In the early 70’s, Reva met and soon married Richard (“Dick”) Wilkerson of Forestville, CA. Reva and Dick enjoyed camping, spending time together and with family. Dick passed away from cancer in 1983.
Thereafter, Reva met Albert J. Sloat, a building contractor and gifted wood worker. On November 12, 1988, Reva married Al. They lived in Sebastopol, where Reva remained until earlier this spring following Al’s death in 2012. Both Reva and Al were active in the Shrine Rod & Gun Club, Lafayette Lodge #126, the Sonoma County Shrine Club, and the Arabians Oriental Band of Sonoma County. They loved to socialize, and opened their home and hearts to family and friends. No crowd was “too big” and visitors were encouraged.
Reva is survived by her three children; Al’s sons, David (Sue), Bob (Teri), and Mark (Amy); numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her beloved younger brother Ramie Millsap from Sparks, NV.
Memorial services will be held at 2 o’clock on November 11, 2016 at the Masonic Center; 373 North Main Street in Sebastopol.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children; POB 1525 Ranson, West Virginia 25428 or the Alzheimer’s Association; POB 96011, Washington D.C. 20090-6011.
