Lenora Alice Rippey, age 89, passed away in her home in Santa Rosa, CA on May 28, 2016. She was born on February 6, 1927 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Sim Charles Potts and Florence Mae (Hasty). During the Great Depression, her family moved west as migratory harvest workers picking crops from cotton to fruit. After arriving in Monterey, California, she, her sister, and mother all worked in a factory canning fish and chicken. She wed Thomas Nelson Rippey on November 13, 1944 in Pacific Grove. Together they had four sons and a daughter. They raised their children in Northern California and in Oklahoma. Upon retirement, they spent time between California and Texas. Throughout her life she shared a love for the value of hard work with her children and grandchildren, encouraging them to help harvest vegetables from her garden for dinner when they came to visit. She loved her family and was most happy when she had her children near her. Her sweet smile will be dearly missed. Preceding her in death are her parents, her siblings Lee, Ruben and Lorene, her devoted husband, children Thomas Rippey and Yvonne (Rippey) Smith and two grandsons. She is survived by her sons, Garald Rippey (Beverly), Ronald Rippey (Susan) and Darryl Rippey (Lana) and 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
