June Eastin Withington passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Rosa on July 21, 2016. June was born to Dudley Hale Eastin and Maude Eastin in April of 1923, the 13h of 13 children. She was a beautiful person outside and in. She graduated from high school and from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY. Subsequently, she joined the U.S. Government as a civil servant. June worked in Ohio and Hawaii before being transferred to California. One of her brothers, Hank, had married a Californian and June felt at home here. June was an amazing joy in the lives of Hank’s children, Danny and Delaine.
In the 1950s, June became the first female dispersing officer of an Army base at Two Rock in Sonoma County. While at Two Rock, she met the love of her life, Colonel Giles (Buzz) Withington, when he came to the base for an inspection. They fell in love and married almost immediately. June left her successful career, one year before her pension vested. She never looked back or expressed any regret. She helped Buzz raise his three youngest sons, Pat, Rik, and Robert. She loved them and all of Buzz’s children and their families.
When Buzz retired from the Army, they moved to Santa Rosa where they lived happily. June was an amazing bridge player and a wonderful friend to a number of great ladies. Her family and friends are confident she is with the Lord. She and Buzz and a host of other wonderful souls are celebrating with her in heaven.
She is survived by her step children: Darlene Lockard, Diane Woodford, Rik Withington, and Robert Withington; step-grandchildren: Jessica Cook, Soleta Lockard, Brian Allen, Priscilla Withington, Ashley Withington, Takoda Withington; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Delaine Eastin here in California.
June was laid to rest July 26th along side her beloved husband Giles (Buzz) Withington. If you would like to make a contribution in her memory, please consider Sutter Care at Home Hospice or the Salvation Army.
