Gary Roberts was no ordinary person. He lived life on his own terms until he passed away from a rare form of pneumonia on January 8, 2017, with a “Billy Bug” in his ear and loved ones by his side. Born to Libby and Al Roberts on November 11, 1947. Gary had a great life growing up in Santa Rosa with lifelong friends he met at Proctor Terrace School, Bill Friedman (gave him his first black eye), Jim Keegan, Mark Trione, and Jim Blodeau. He had a love for fast cars, unique homes, and boats. He had charm and charisma, a great sense of humor, was highly educated, a successful mortgage broker, a passionate sailor and yachtsman. Gary enjoyed sharing magical days with friends and family on the San Francisco Bay. Some of the parties he and Henry Beaumont threw on their boat, Spellbound, are legendary. Gary was loved by too many to mention, but most of all, me, his proud wife, Jan Volk, “son” Willie-Bob, and the late Fredric Freund. A special thanks to the staff at Kaiser Hospital and all of his incredible friends, including John Bribescas, Bob Hofstadt, Jim Lane, and Mark Weisner, who supported Gary and I through this difficult time.
Per his request, no formal services will be held. Celebrations for close friends are forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, Gary would want you to donate to your favorite charity or buy groceries for the person/family in line ahead of you. Cheers to a life well lived!
