Alice peacefully passed on January 5, 2017 in Healdsburg at the age 95. She was born to Czechoslovakian immigrant parents on September 24, 1921 in Pisek, North Dakota. She attended schools in North Dakota as well as at Strayers Business College in Washington DC where she launched a pre-marriage career with the US Government. While with the US State Department, working under two sitting Presidents she attended numerous State dinners, but never acquired a taste for oysters on the half shell, and joked that they always seemed to be on the menu, often hiding them in her purse. She was fluent in Czech and provided invaluable interpretation services to the government during World War II. After the war, she married her childhood sweetheart, the love of her life, George P. Bursick and moved to California, first Redwood City then finally to Santa Rosa in 1962. After her husband died in 1978, Alice continues to carry her love for him and never remarried. Always supported with a wealth of friends, Alice later became an honorary Italian joining her dear friend Bea Dillion (Camalli) volunteering at Santa Rosa’s Italian Cultural Foundation’s events for years.
She is survived by her beloved son, George; daughter in law, Jo Ann; grandsons, John and Dylan; sister in law, Veronica Gosling; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, George and her sister, Emmeline Svir.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff of the Healdsburg Senior Living Community for their love, support and absolute dedication to providing Alice with a life of quality and dignity. They are, and will always be, our extended family and Alice loved them dearly.
Services will be held Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. at Calvary Catholic Cemetery Chapel; 2930 Bennett Valley Road in Santa Rosa. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donation be made to: Sonoma County Meals on Wheels.
