There’s a lot to be said for the ways a mortuary can bring comfort to families when they have lost a loved one. This is often a very difficult time because while mourning and coming to terms with the death, family and friends must also make practical decisions about funeral arrangements and other death-related concerns. We know from experience that soothing music, hushed voices, and soft lights are not enough. Those who provide this important end of life service also need to be able to listen carefully – very carefully – to what a family wants and needs and then be able to assist wherever possible to creatively and cost-effectively help honor and preserve a loved one’s memory.
And sometimes, because comfort comes in many shapes and sizes, a cup of coffee or tea is just what everyone needs. In fact, that’s something that a funeral home in northwestern South Carolina has taken quite seriously. Efforts to offer a Starbucks experience to those in need have become a brick-and-mortar reality for the Robinson Funeral Home which built an attached coffee shop that features Starbucks.
According to an ABC News Blog, Robinson, who owns two other funeral homes in the area, has been serving free coffee to customers for years. But when he realized his facility’s renovation would provide ample space for a coffee shop, he decided to upgrade his offerings. He turned to Starbucks, he said, because theirs is “the best coffee out there.”
“If we’re going to offer a Coffee Corner, we’re going to get the best there is,” he said.
The spot also offers food, fireplace, TV and Wi-Fi and is open to the neighboring public.
Lucky for us, we’ve already got coffee brewing. Plus, we’ve got several great coffee shops close by for those who want something extra.
